RACE REPLAY: 2016 Preakness Stakes Featuring Exaggerator

A fantastic ride, Exaggerator played it perfectly...make sure you check out the frolicking guys in the infield at the finish...

Five Detailed Preakness Previews

Brian Nadeau of Brooklyn Backstretch (Horse Player Now) lays out a really nice Preakness handicap and gives his thoughts on each of the 11. He has Nyquist and Exaggerator at Win and Place.

Horse Racing Nation puts  a twist on everything by talking about all of the field except Nyquist and Exaggerator.

J Keeler Johnson at Bloodhorse.com offers interesting thoughts and invites fans to post their own in the comments. It's great.

Paul Mazur takes Nyquist and this is another cool listing of each horse in the field.

My old favorite Halvey On Horse Racing serves us Exaggerator and Nyquist but says the only real payoff on a bet will come from the Trifecta. More on each horse.

Horse Racing Nation Presents Handicapper: Shap 'Cap - Preakness

Scott Shapiro provides a forecast for the race. He addresses Exaggerator's inability to beat Nyquist thus far and counsels a better to take the two in a package. He also discusses long shots Stradiveri and Cherry Wine. It's worth a listen.

Exaggerator and Nyquist 5 Head to Head Races

First Race

Second Race

Third Race ~ The San Vicente Stakes showed that Exaggerator was step for step with Nyquist but he just couldnt get past him. I believe he is capable but I also believe Nyquist has proven he can hold off any charge. The Chart.

Fourth Race ~ The Kentucky Derby offers Exaggerator a legitimate excuse. In the 20 horse posse, he had to knife through traffic to get at the black and purple clad stud. Fifth Race The Preakness~ Exaggerator finally breaks free in the slop.

Very much worth a few minutes...

Preakness Countdown ~ Nyquist Update

Tyler Cerin, an equine therapist, gives a very interesting interview about Nyquist's training. I generally try to avoid "talking heads" interviews and so forth, but Cerin provides relevant training discussions. Also, Nyquist can be seen through out the video.

Songbird Update

Songbird didn't make the trip to Churchill Downs for last Friday's Kentucky Oaks but could still race in another signature event for 3-year-old fillies.
Back to training after treatment for a low-grade fever kept her in California, the undefeated daughter of Medaglia d'Oro is considered possible for the June 18 Summertime Oaks, a Grade II, $200,000 race at Santa Anita Park. (Full Story)

Kentucky Derby Thoughts

With the big race tomorrow, I thought I would lay down some random thoughts...

Were I betting man, I would most assuredly take Gun Runner at 10-1.  He has looked great in his workouts and is a serious contender.  Take Gun Runner to win...Nyquist is a fine horse and is unbeaten. He is favored for a reason. He is a safe choice for a win and should hit the board easily....He who doth count out Mohaymen is a fool. Mohaymen had a bad trip at the Florida Derby, No big deal, even Secretariat and Pharaoh lost two races.  Although it's disconcerting to see him fighting so much in his workouts, don't be surprised if he sneaks on to the board....Exaggerator can go toe to toe with Nyquist, He already has. He runs well in the rain by the way...If you are into Long Shots, Majesto is a fun one at 30-1.

Javier Castellano is probably my favorite jockey. He's on Destin...Victor Espinoza will be on Whitmore.

Uncle Mo has 4 sons in the race. That's right. FOUR!  Tapit has 3.

Cant wait until Larry says "Theyre all in line..."
