Whitney BreakdownThe prep season for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships is in full swing, and this Saturday, Aug. 5, one of the most prestigious races for older dirt horses in North America, the Grade 1 ,$1.2 million Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, will bring together some of the leading contenders for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. (AMERICA'S BEST RACING)
Position DrawingWinchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimney's multiple Grade 1 winner Gun Runner will attempt to bolster his status as one of the top older horses in the world, wearing the target as the 4-5 morning-line favorite in a field of seven for the Grade 1, $1.2 million Whitney, the traditional focal race for older horses in the 149th Saratoga Race Course meet.
A “Win and You're In” qualifier for the Grade 1, $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic on November 4 at Del Mar, the 90th running of the 1 1/8-mile Whitney anchors an outstanding day of live racing Saturday that also includes the Grade 1, $500,000 Test, the Grade 3, $200,000 Fasig-Tipton Waya, the $100,000 Fasig-Tipton De La Rose and the $100,000 Fasig-Tipton Lure.
Currently ranked third in Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings and second in NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll, Gun Runner underscored his impressive runner-up finish to top-ranked Arrogate in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse in March with a front-running, seven-length win in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster on June 17 at Churchill Downs. (PAULICK)
Analysis The huge favorite in the Whitney will undoubtedly be Gun Runner, who has risen to impressive heights this year. Following a productive three-year-old campaign that included four graded stakes wins, culminating with a gate-to-wire romp over older horses in the Clark Handicap (gr. I), Gun Runner has gone 2-for-3 this year while winning the Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) and running second to Arrogate in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I). (BLOODHORSE)

Race 8 at Delaware Park was an allowance race for $ 42K and Race 9 was a $30K Stakes Race (The Delaware Park Arabian Derby). Both races were well run in the slop.

Accelerate Pulls Off San Diego Shocker; Arrogate Fourth (TDN)
Obviously, this is the one the entire racing world is talking about this morning. It's hard to understand what happened to Arrogate but we all need to maintain sight of the fact that Accelerate ran a fine race to win. Is this a great sport or what?

Buzz~~Arrogate at the San Diego Handicap 7-22-17
Saturday's San Diego Handicap out at Del Mar will feature Arrogate against a small field. The purse is $300,000, Arrogate is heavily favored.
Arrogate Begins Del Mar Journey in San Diego Handicap ~ Bloodhorse ~ Baffert said July 19 that "everything (has been) great so far" for the son of Unbridled's Song since he moved from Santa Anita Park to Del Mar July 16. After his final timed work in preparation for the San Diego, Baffert said Arrogate was "up to (his) standards." "(The San Diego) is a mile and a sixteenth, which is not really his distance, but he's ready for a race," Baffert said of the last-out Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (G1) winner. "He still has to break and there's still racing luck involved. As long as he's healthy and doing well, I just take him there and he always shows us something different." More at the Link.
From Horse racing nation ~ Arrogate is the Master of his Domain in San Diego ~ In fact, this will be only the second career start at the seaside oval for Arrogate. Last time he was here, though, he was not the same champion that we all know today. The occasion was an August 4 allowance race, and that facile victory quickly led to everything we have seen over the past 11 months. Electrifying victories in the Travers, Breeders' Cup Classic, Pegasus World Cup, and most recently the Dubai World Cup, have propelled the four-year-old son of Unbridled's Song to international super stardom. In that last race at Meydan on March 25, Arrogate proved that he can overcome trouble against world class horses, after getting squeezed back badly at the start. More at the link
Paulick ~ Arrogate Towers Over Five Rivals In G2 San Diego Handicap ~ The group Arrogate faces Saturday consists of Cat Burglar, another Baffert trainee, Accelerate from the John Sadler barn, Donworth from the stable of Doug O'Neill, Peter Miller-trained El Huerfano, and J. Keith Desormeaux's Dalmore. Cat Burglar has six victories in 19 starts for owner Michael Lund Petersen and most recently finished second to Collected, albeit 14 lengths behind the winner, in the Precisionist Stakes on June 24 at Santa Anita which was run at the San Diego distance of 1 1/16 miles.
