The horse with the tongue-twisting name (M-Sha-Wish) handled the top field of older horses assembled this season in the $500,000 Donn Handicap. Over a speed-favoring course turf course, fan-favorite The Pizza Man was unable to make up ground late on Saturday, allowing the Josie Carroll-trained Lukes Alley to nose out Shining Copper for the victory at odds of 5-1. The 6-year-old son of Flower Alley won the Grade I Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap in a final time of 1:48.20 for the 1 1/8 miles. (Article

French-bred Flamboyant is suddenly the “now” horse in California’s marathon turf division as he rallied from off the pace to win Saturday’s Grade II, $200,000 San Marcos Stakes by three quarters of a length while negotiating 1 ¼ miles on turf in 2:01.58.  Ridden by Brice Blanc and trained by Paddy Gallagher, he was again impressive as he followed up on his neck victory in Santa Anita’s Grade II, 1 1/8 miles turf San Gabriel Stakes on Jan. 2. Michael Lund Peterson's Mor Spirit was very confidently handled in Saturday's Grade 3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes by Gary Stevens. The sophomore son of Eskendereya covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.21 over the fast main track for trainer Bob Baffert to garner the winning share of the $150,000 purse as well as ten more points on the road to the 2016 Kentucky Derby.
